FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BROADBAND LIGHT THERAPY >

Broadband Light® Therapy (BBL Laser) at a Glance

Broadband Light® therapy is a form of intense pulsed light using two flashlamps to deliver a broad spectrum of light energy into targeted layers of the skin. The focused pulses of light are absorbed by chromophores, or small pockets of pigment or color, in the skin. The absorbed light is then transformed into heat, damaging the chromophore as well as contracting collagen fibers and stimulating collagen production. A BBL® treatment may be used to address multiple skin conditions such as pigment disorders, UV damage, acne and signs of visible aging on the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands.3

What to Know About Broadband Light® Therapy (BBL Laser)

To ensure the best results from a BBL® treatment, it’s important to prep the skin to maximize both the integrity of the skin and the color difference between the base skin color and the conditions being addressed (i.e. freckles, redness, etc). It’s best to avoid the use of any exfoliating acids, retinols, or waxing for one week before Broadband Light® therapy. Avoiding UV exposure for 4-6 weeks before a BBL® treatment will reduce the risk of diminishing results because of tanned skin. During the consultation, mention any medications that cause UV sensitivity or a history of cold sores so that preventative actions may be taken if necessary before undergoing a BBL® treatment.
