Ultrasonic Spatula at a Glance
An ultrasonic skin scrubber is a water-based exfoliation method. It works by delivering ultrasonic sound waves at a frequency generally between 28,000 and 30,000 vibrations per second to loosen and draw out excess dead skin cells and debris, collecting the material on the metal head of the face spatula as it glides over the skin. When the surface of the skin is wet during a treatment with an ultrasonic skin scrubber the water molecules become pulverized, a process called micronization, creating a soft peeling effect on the skin.
What to Know About Ultrasonic Spatula
In order for the ultrasonic skin scrubber to work the skin must be wet throughout use. Hold the skin spatula at a 45 degree angle to the skin and glide slowly over the skin without applying added pressure.1 There are a variety of models available both professionally and for at-home use. Different models may vary in the intensity of the ultrasonic waves and/or the addition of other therapeutic modalities such as microcurrent, heat and LED lights. In a professional setting treatment with a skin spatula may yield greater results due to the device used and the preparation of the skin to allow for thorough removal of debris within the follicles. If using an at-home device, thoroughly review the device instructions for proper utilization and frequency of use.
