Traditional microneedling creates a single form of controlled injury to the skin via a puncture wound. The skin, like any organ system of the body, is in a constant state of change influenced by natural, progressive molecular aging and external input such as a patient’s diet, lifestyle and skincare practices. Considering this dynamic interplay, no aesthetic treatment, whether surgical or non-surgical, is ever truly permanent. However, the Vivace^® RF microneedling treatment can create significant collagen induction with results that continue to evolve and improve up to 6 months after the treatment. The new, invigorated tissue, while “stronger” than before Vivace^®, will also be subject to the same sources of degradation, such as sun exposure, poor diet or natural aging. Annual follow-up treatments are generally recommended to maintain the results of Vivace^® RF microneedling treatment. ⁴

The Vivace^® RF microneedling treatment creates thousands of microchannels in the skin that remain open for about 6 hours after the Vivace^® microneedle. Along with the thermal injury delivered into the deeper layers, the skin is in a more vulnerable state and certain activities are not recommended after Vivace^® RF microneedling even if the skin appears to be fine. The standard recommendation is that patients avoid wearing makeup, hot environments and vigorous exercise for 2 days after Vivace^® RF microneedling treatment. All exfoliating skincare products should be avoided for 5-7 days and pronlonged exposure to sunlight should be avoided for two weeks.⁵ It’s important to follow any post-procedure instructions from the trust professional administering the Vivace^® RF microneedling treatment as they may differ from the standard recommendation.

The frequency and total number of Vivace^® RF microneedling treatments will be determined by the experienced practitioner administering the Vivace^® treatment. Many providers find that three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, are sufficient, but more or less may be recommended. Single and maintenance treatments may also be available. To ensure a positive response to Vivace^® RF microneedling and rapid healing, patients should limit sun exposure and avoid any unprotected UV exposure or tanning beds for 2 weeks before the Vivace^® microneedle treatment. Any active skincare with an exfoliating effect should be stopped 5-7 days before the Vivace^® treatment. This includes topicals such as alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic, poly-lactic, mandelic, etc), beta hydroxy acids (salicylic acid), exfoliating enzymes, all retinoids (prescription and OTC), and benzoyl peroxide. Patients with a history of cold sores may be advised to take an antiviral agent for 1-2 days before the Vivace^® RF microneedling treatment. Patients should always consult with a professional skincare practitioner for specific Vivace^® before and after care. ⁷

In general, patients should avoid cosmetics (except mineral-based products) and skin care products outside of the perscribed post-treatment products for 24 hours after a Vivace^® RF microneedling treatment. Although cleansing the skin with a gentle cleanser may be appropriate, patients should consult with the professional administering the Vivace^® treatment for specific Vivace^® before and after treatment instructions, including how soon it is safe to cleanse the skin.⁸

The Vivace^® RF microneedling system offers a multi-prong approach to treat fine lines and wrinkles and improve overall skin tone and appearance.
